If you have a PPO plan

  • We're in network with most PPO dental plans offered through employers in San Diego.
  • Call with your plan name, or bring your card. Maya checks your benefits before your visit.
  • We file every claim for you.
  • Before any treatment beyond a cleaning, you get your share in writing.
  • If we're out of network with your plan, we still file the claim. You pay at the visit and your plan pays you back.

How PPO coverage usually works

Many PPO plans pay 100% of checkups and cleanings, around 80% of fillings and around 50% of crowns and implants, after a deductible and up to a yearly maximum that is often between $1,000 and $2,000. Your plan's numbers are the ones that count, and we look them up for you.

HMO and DHMO plans

We're not in network with HMO or DHMO dental plans. Those plans assign you a dentist. If you're thinking of switching to a PPO plan or to our membership, we're happy to compare the costs with you.

Paying

  • Payment is due at each visit, after your insurance share.
  • Cash, checks, all major credit and debit cards, and HSA or FSA cards.
  • Monthly payments through a third-party lender for treatment over $500, with approved credit.
  • Treatment over $3,000 is paid in two halves, at the start and at the end.

The Bluefin membership

For patients without dental insurance. One yearly fee, paid to us, with no deductible, no yearly maximum and no waiting period.

  • Adult

    14 and older

    $389 a yearor $34 a month

    • Two checkups and cleanings
    • All routine X-rays
    • One emergency exam with X-ray
    • 15% off all other treatment

  • Child

    Up to age 13

    $289 a yearor $25 a month

    • Two checkups and cleanings
    • Fluoride twice a year
    • X-rays when due
    • 15% off sealants and fillings

  • Gum care

    After a deep cleaning

    $549 a yearor $48 a month

    • Four gum maintenance cleanings
    • Two exams
    • All routine X-rays
    • 15% off all other treatment

How it works

  • It starts the day you join, including for treatment you already need.
  • It renews once a year. You can cancel anytime before the renewal date.
  • It isn't insurance. It only works at Bluefin Dental and can't be combined with an insurance plan.
  • Monthly payment costs a little more over the year than paying once.
